The one now called Maxam is one of the most iconic hunting cartridge firms in Spain. Its origins date back to the Spanish Gunpowder Society created by Alfred Nobel in 1872. Since then, the company has undergone a good number of changes but has never moved away from the hunting world. Mythical brands such as Rio, Saga, UEE, have been fired for generations by Spanish hunters. Becoming the largest manufacturer of shotgun cartridge in the world, it has reached a production of 500 million units a year. Its importance has been such that it has come to absorb important brands of ammunition from other countries, such as the prestigious Eley of the United Kingdom.
Now, the cartridge giant has reached a sales agreement with the French company Nobel Sport to sell it the division that manufactures hunting and sports cartridges (Maxam Outdoors) that will take effect on March 1, according to Jara and Sedal.
The company, which is also dedicated to the development, manufacture and marketing of explosives for mining, quarries and construction - in addition to the well-known hunting and shooting cartridges - has been immersed in an internal reorganization process since the beginning of 2019. According to Jara y Sedal, the cartridge manufacturing process will continue to be carried out in Spain, so access to those marks in armories will not be affected. The brand's headquarters, on the other hand, will move from Madrid to the Basque Country.
